Recommended Size Guide

A JPEG needs a minimum amount of data per pixel to stay sharp. If you ask for a very small file at very large dimensions, the result will look blocky. Use this table as a safe starting point.

Approximate maximum dimensions that still look sharp at each target file size
Target file size Recommended maximum dimensions
20 KB About 640 Γ— 360 px
50 KB About 1000 Γ— 560 px
100 KB About 1400 Γ— 790 px
200 KB About 2000 Γ— 1125 px

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Resizing and compression run inside your browser using the Canvas API. Your file is never uploaded and the result is saved directly to your device.

How do I resize an image in inches, centimeters or millimeters?

Open the By Size tab, enter the width and height, choose your unit and set the DPI value. The tool converts the physical size into pixel dimensions automatically.

Why does my image look blurry after compressing it to 20KB?

A 20KB JPEG can only store a limited amount of data. If the image is still 1920 Γ— 1080 pixels, the compressor has to lower quality drastically and the result looks blocky. Reduce the dimensions to around 640 Γ— 360 pixels and the same 20KB file will look sharp.

What does β€œAuto-resize to protect quality” do?

When the target file size is too small for the chosen dimensions, the tool reduces the pixel dimensions slightly instead of destroying image quality. Switch it off if you need exact dimensions and can accept a lower quality result.

Which preset should I use for a passport size photo?

The Passport 413Γ—531 preset covers most 35 Γ— 45 mm requirements at 300 DPI. Always check the official dimensions and file size limits of the form you are filling.

Can I compress a PNG file to an exact KB size?

PNG uses lossless compression, so exact KB targets are not reliable. For a specific file size limit, JPG or WEBP is usually the better choice.
